Yuk Yuk's, the largest chain of comedy clubs in Canada, is on a mission to find the funniest person on the planet with the Great Canadian Laugh Off.
One South African comedian has also entered the fray thanks to a partnership between Yuk Yuk and Joe Parker of Parker Leisure Management, who organised promoting the competition in South Africa.
About 30 local artists battled it out to be the one to represent South Africa as an International Elite contestant, but the votes were in favour of the funnyman with the funny name, Al Prodgers.
His impressive repertoire includes, among many other things, touring with legendary US comedian Steven Wright, regular performances at the Smirnoff International Comedy Showcase, The Barry Hilton Show, as well as local soaps Generations and Isidingo.
Prodgers jets off to Canada shortly to take on the 63 other comedians for the prize of 25 000 Canadian dollars in the week-long spectacular that kicks-off on March 25, 2007.
