MEDIA: Al Prodgers Interviewed by Cadbury Local 'n Lekker for People Magazine
Celebs show their Local ‘n Lekker Side In celebration of Cadbury Dairy Milk’s Local ‘n Lekker flavours, Cadbury asked these popular South African celebs to tell us what
makes them feel proudly Local ‘n lekker!
Q: Have you brought anything from a
street seller or at an intersection? If so, what?
A: Of Course! Where else would you
find affordable, ripe avocados? I think I’ve also bought the same set of South
African flag mirror socks three times over.
Q: Your local ‘n lekker food or dessert?
A: We have such a large variety of
foods that my favourite changes all the time. I recently saw a sign in a shop
window that said, ‘We’ll beat anybody’s vetkoek!’. I wasn’t sure if that was an
advertisement or a threat. As a former Cape
Town boy, I relish fish and slap chips, but it’s
harder to find the real thing now that I live in Jozi. For dessert, a Cadbury
Dairy Milk Local ‘n Lekker chocolate is great. And, if I don’t have to work
or drive a little ‘polisiekoffie’ rounds off the evening nicely.
Q: Favourite SA hotspot?
A: The best way to spend a day is to
take a walk in the mountains with my family and the dogs. The ‘brak’ is truly South African, a mixture
of many different heritages.
Q: A local ‘n lekker moment in history?
A: The high point for me is still that first day we
voted in ’94. I remember standing in line for hours with high hopes and then
for months we had to eat all the cans of tuna and baked beans we’d stockpiled.
Q: What makes you local ‘n lekker?
A: I’m local because this country inspires
me with all that’s ‘sharp!’ and infuriates me with all that’s ‘eina!’ It makes
me laugh with all that’s ‘eish!’ It’s my home. And that’s lekker, bru.
